          Job Description:

          Reports to a Nurse Manager.
          Receives direction from a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse.

          Job Requirements:

          High school diploma or equivalent GED.
          Must meet the qualifications required for a Nursing Assistant AND a Unit Secretary:
          • Nursing Asst: 6 months of recent experience as a nursing assistant.
          Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant, or one clinical semester of nursing school or successful completion of an acute care nurse aide course can be substituted for the experience.
          • Unit Secretary: Six (6) months of experience as a unit secretary, ward clerk, medical office assistant, or nursing assistant will be accepted in lieu of the required course work.
          Six (6) months of experience in a clerical or secretarial position which requires the utilization of medical terminology will also be accepted in lieu of coursework.
          Hospital clerical experience preferred.
          Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
          Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
          Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
          (For TCU, Rehab, Flex Float Only: Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Long Term Care required.)
          NOTE:
          • If the job applicant does not meet the qualifications of a Nursing Assistant; but meets the qualifications of the Unit Secretary, he/she will be hired into the Unit Secretary job.
          After the employee successfully completes the cross training and the competencies of the Nursing Assistant job, he/she will be transferred into the Unit Assistant job.
          • If the job applicant does not meet the qualifications of a Unit Secretary; but meets the qualifications of a Nursing Assistant, he/she will be hired into the Nursing Assistant job.
          After the employees successfully completes the cross training and the competencies of the Unit Secretary job, he/she will be transferred into the Unit Assistant job.
